We can then design your crown on the computer right in front of you. The design process lasts approximately 10 minutes, and once complete, your finished crown is ready to be cemented in 45 minutes. This digital impression technology can be utilized for most crowns, inlays, onlays, and even certain implant procedures.
What is a digital impression? When we need to create dental appliances such as crowns, bridges, and inlays/onlays we rely on digital impressions to help us craft them. We use a tool known as an intraoral scanner to make a three dimensional digital map of your teeth. With this image we have a permanent digital record of your teeth that we can use as a reference for producing a dental appliance like a crown.
Is it invasive?Absolutely not. Having a digital impression done is one of the least invasive procedures we offer. The process involves a handheld device that we simply run over your teeth the way we might with a camera taking pictures. The part of the scanner that enters your mouth is roughly the size of the head of your tooth brush.
Same Day CrownsDigital impressions go hand-in-hand with same day crowns. By speeding up the process by which we measure and take impressions of your teeth we are able to offer procedures like same day crowns. This cuts a tremendous amount of time out of the standard crown procedure. Normally it takes at least two separate visits to our office to have a permanent crown fitted.
With digital impressions we are able to take an impression of your tooth or teeth, scan the impression into our CEREC mill and have the tooth crafter within an hour. While the crown is being crafted we will prepare your tooth to receive it by shaving off some of the enamel. Once the crown has been crafted and your tooth is prepped to receive it, we can apply a permanent cement between your tooth and the crown and set it with a special ultraviolet light. That’s it!
Same day crowns save time and money.
Patient EducationAt Bradshaw Family Dental we are passionate about patient education. Patient education makes the biggest difference in our fight against poor oral hygiene. Digital impressions allow us to take high definition imagery of your mouth and share them with you almost immediately. We can discuss problem areas within your mouth and show you spots where you have done a good job taking care of your teeth.
A point of reference makes a big difference to people when it comes to oral hygiene. Digital impressions allow us to give our patients that point of reference.
